The Dead Sea is actually a hypersaline lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel and the West Bank to the west. It is the lowest point on earth in any land mass, its surface is 394 m below the sea level and is 417 m deep.it is also one of the world’s saltiest bodies of water, the quantity of water that evaporates from it is greater than that which flows into it, such that this body of water has one of the highest concentration of salt in the world (340 grams per liter of water) .
It is called the Dead Sea or the Sea of Death because its salinity avoids the existence of any life forms in the lake. There are no fish or any kind of swimming, squirming creatures living in or near the water. There are, however, several types of bacteria and one type of algae that have adapted to harsh life in the waters of the Dead Sea. The water is deadly to most living things. Fish accidentally swimming into the waters from one of the several freshwater streams that feed the lake are killed instantly, their bodies quickly coated with a preserving layer of salt crystals and then tossed onto shore by the wind and waves.
Humans are remarkably adaptable and we can swim in the Dead Sea. Because of the extremely high concentration of dissolved mineral salts in the water its density is way more than that of plain fresh water. What this means is our bodies are more buoyant in the Dead Sea - so you float like a cork .
